Ski area Hintertux Glacier
The Hintertux Glacier is Austria's only year-round ski area and has been named, among other things, "especially snow secure" by ADAC! Here, you'll find mostly red pistes as well as a few blue pistes. The "Lärmstange", "Waldabfahrt" and the "Schwarzen Pfanne" are challenging runs that demand dexterity and top condition. The longest run is the valley run from the "Gefrorenen Wand", or "Frozen Wall", – at 12 km lenght, you'll overcome an altitude difference of 1,750 m! A truly special attraction is the glacier bus: the gondola hangs on two cables instead of one, making for a much stabler ride. With the "Betterpark" for experts and the "Familypark" for beginners, freestyle fun is provided almost all year long on the Hintertux Glacier.
Après ski Hintertux
A unique mountain experience awaits you high up on top of the Hintertux Glacier. Ride the "Gletscherbus 3" lift up to the "Gefrorene Wand" mountain station and head out onto the panoramic terrace at 3,250 m altitude, where you can take in excellent views of the Großglockner and the Dolomites from South Tyrol to the Zugspitze. Another alternative is to get off at the Spannagel Cave, one of the most important caves in Tyrol with a shaft length of 10 km and a depth of up to 25 m. Those who prefer to ride even farther should take a ride with the nostalgic Zillertal Railway through the wintry landscapes. The nearest train station lies in Mayrhofen, about 20 km away from Hintertux.
Snowpark: Betterpark & Funslope Hintertux Hintertux
At the Hintertux Glacier, there are two fun parks to find whose opening times are coordinated to allow winter sports fans to enjoy the snow all year long. The "Betterpark" snowpark at the Olperer (3,476 m) is open from April to July as well as from September to December. This lovely fun park can be reached at 3,200 m altitude via the Olper tow lift and counts as one of the highest-lying and snow secure parks in the Alps. Freestylers can expect to make great jumps here and make use of an ever-changing Jib-Setup. Additionally, the Betterpark is the first snow park in Europe that holds its special opening ceremony already at the beginning of October. This location will get ever freestyler's heart racing.
The "Familypark" fun slope at the Sommerberg promises fun for all ages. The park is open from December to April and takes over for the "Betterpark" during the winter months. Here, winter sports fans can ride along steep turns, obstacles and wave tracks as well as two giant snails at an altitude of 2,100 m. There are two versions of this particularly adventurous run available to choose. The "Tuxerjoch" 4-person chair lift quickly takes you back to the start of the fun slope! Kids will also find a children's slope and the "Flohpark" at the "Schwarze Pfanne" valley run.
The almost year-round freestyle pleasure at the Hintertux Glacier is really worth seeing thanks to the "Familypark" and "Betterpark".
