Ski vacations Nová Role – Tranquil porcelain town in the Bohemian Ore Mountains!
Nová Role
Nová Role is a charming holiday resort at the foot of the Bohemian Ore Mountains, just outside the famous spa town of Karlovy Vary. The town is located in the Karlovarský kraj region, which is the westernmost part of the Czech Republic and borders the German states of Bavaria and Saxony. The village of Nová Role lies at an altitude of 418 m and has three districts with a total of around 4,100 inhabitants. From the centre of the village, it is only about 11 km to Karlovy Vary, about 35 km to the German border and 24 km to the nearest ski area. At Plessberg, in the Ore Mountains, there are about 12 kilometres of pistes spread over ten runs. The charm of the small town of Nová Role stems from its long history, which begins as early as the 13th century. As such, it is considered the seventh oldest settlement in the Karlovy Vary Region. The historical monument of the town is the Romanesque-Gothic Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the centre of the town. There is also a small lake within the town, with several hotels on its shore.
Nová Role is also known for its porcelain production, which has grown into a large manufactory since the beginning of the 20th century and is one of the most important employers in the area. The artistically painted porcelain can be bought as souvenirs in some shops in the village. There are also various attractive excursion destinations in the surrounding area, including the famous spa town of Karlovy Vary. There is also a direct train connection to Karlovy Vary at the Nová Role railway station.
Bohemian Ore Mountains
The Bohemian Ore Mountains lie on the Czech part of the mountain range, which borders with the German state of Saxony. The world-famous central mountain range in Saxony and Bohemia is especially know for it's unique landscape and rich culture and long tradition of ore mining and Christmas wood carvings, such as the candle arch bows and the little piper men. Visitors benefit from the vast woody hiking terrain and the magnificent cross-country skiing area, and of course Alpine skiing is possible here, too. On the border, around the highest peak Klínovec (1,244 m), as well as around the Fichtelberg (1,215 m) there are various attractive ski areas, whereby the local area of Boží Dar at the Neklid is most important winter sports centre in this region.Travel Nová Role
