Ski vacations Bernau – enchanting high-altitude valley in the southern Black Forest!

Bernau im Schwarzwald

Located to the south-east of the Feldberg, the vast high-altitude valley of Bernau, situated between 855 and 1,415 m altitude, enfolds in front of one. Right in the heart of the valley, at approx. 900 m altitude, lies the municipal of Bernau, with its ten smaller resorts and villages. This is a place of pure idyll: the picturesque landscape is composed of the little villages dotted here and there, separated by the snowy fields and forests, typical for the Black Forest area. Winter or snowshoe hikes and cross-country skiing are the perfect ways to explore the region. At the edge of the resort lies the Herzoghorn (1,415 m), the second-highest mountain of the Black Forest and great place to go for hikers and tobogganers. Winter sports has a long tradition in Bernau. Hence, there is a sports centre with clubs and many top athletes train here regularly or take part in seminars. The large network of cross-country trails is especially mentionable. The nearest piste is also within easy reach: two small ski areas rank along the mountain flanks in Bernau, and the Feldberg only a few kilometres away.

Bernau also has a few highlights to offer: art fans will find an interesting gallery in the Hans-Thoma Museum, displaying a number of his pictures, and of other local artists, such as Otto Dix, who also originates from Baden-Württemberg. Every year in February there is major event for dog-fans - the annual dog-sledging contests have been constant event here for the past 30 years. Be it families, activity seekers or culturally interested - Bernau offers a great winter holiday for everyone.

Black Forest

Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cherry cake), Cuckoo clocks and the "Bollenhut" (traditional women's hat) - all this is typical for the Black Forest region and enjoys world-wide recognition. 160 km long and approx. 60 km wide is the expanse of this central German mountain range, covering 11,400 m² in close proximity to Switzerland and France. The Black Forest, with its more than 70 peaks over 1,000 m altitude, is the highest of the German central mountain ranges. Sporty Alpine skiers, expectant cross-country goers, loves of good wine and cuisine and all those looking for some relaxation and pampering, are welcome to experience the benefits of the Black Forest.
