St. Englmar

The state-recognised spa resort St. Englmar is situated at an altitude of 808 m and is known as the centre of winter sports in the Bavarian Forest. The idyllic village is located on a southern slope of a mountain range in the Bavarian Forest and offers ideal conditions for skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing or horse-drawn sleigh rides. Here you will find both an entertaining and eventful holiday, as well as all sorts of relaxation and fun in a beautiful natural setting. The Arber, the Bavarian Forest's highest mountain at 1,456 m, became well-known due to the international ski world cup. The local mountains Predigtstuhl, Pröller and Hirschenstein also offer great winter sports opportunities.

Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km². Besides of the Alpine region, this region is also known for its affinity to winter sports. Families in particular will find exactly what they are looking for here. Those who prefer not to explore the Bavarian Forest on skis can also go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The lovely castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest are definitively worth while a visit. Numerous restaurant and quaint huts, which offer both regional and international culinary highlights, should also be high on your list of to-do's.
