Ski area Gitschberg Jochtal-Brixen

The ‘Gitschberg Jochtal-Brixen’ lift pass offers skiing fun and variety in the Brixen-Plose and Gitschberg-Jochtal ski areas on a total of 98 kilometres of pistes. With 25 lifts, the varied ski area (948 - 2,510 m) can be explored on skis. Mühlbach (772 m) is located directly on the Gitschberg-Jochtal ski area, where you can discover almost 55 kilometres of pistes with 16 lifts. The lift network consists of the Gitschberg ski area (2,510 m) above Meransen and the Jochtal (up to 2,100 m) near Vals. A charming piste attendant, the ‘Cavaliera’, is always on the slopes from Tuesday to Saturday. Wearing a tailcoat and top hat, she immediately stands out and has the best tips and assistance for skiers. La Cavaliera’ also offers various special activities that guests can take part in free of charge during the week. Three ski schools, one of which has been awarded the Golden Children's Ski School Seal of Approval, as well as the Kinderland in Meransen, the Kinderwelt at the Nesselbahn and the Gimmy Fun Ride in Jochtal also make the ski area extremely family-friendly. On the Gitschberg, a 360° panoramic platform also offers a fantastic view of the main Alpine ridge, the Zillertal, Stubai and Ötztal Alps and up to 500 Dolomite peaks.

The town's local mountain, the Plose, is only around 7 km from Brixen, where you can ski at altitudes of 1,060 to 2,505 metres and enjoy a fantastic view of the Dolomites. The clearly laid out ski area with a total of 9 lifts and 43 kilometres of pistes is ideal for families. Children can romp around on the practice slope at the Randötschlift or in the Kinderland, while adults can burn off energy on the longest groomed run in South Tyrol, the Trametsch. It is 9 km long and covers a difference in altitude of more than 1,400 metres. In addition to great pistes and rustic hut magic, Plose offers plenty of fun for winter sports enthusiasts. Freestylers and snowboarders can enjoy themselves in the Plose fun park and speed skiers can measure their speed at the Plose Speed Check. The measuring facility is located directly opposite the Schönboden lift mountain station.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.

Après ski Rio di Pusteria

After a day on the pistes, winter sports fans can choose from various après ski bars both on the alpine pastures in the ski areas as well as at the valley stations in Maranza and Valles. Enjoy the end of the day with classic après ski hits and occasional live music! In Rio di Pusteria, you can dance until late at night in the local "Testarossa Club". Alternatively the disco "Max" invites to party a little longer in nearby Bressanone.

If you prefer having one for the road and then going on to the cosy of sporty part of the evening, Mühlbach will give you all sorts of opportunities. A relaxed afternoon in the café on the town square, a few founds on the ice rink or hiking on the surrounding hills make for great alternatives. The high valley has a high snow security, and you can find winter hiking paths and wonderful routes for snow shoe hikes nearly everywhere. Eight toboggan runs in the ski area provide for toboggan fun e.g. on the 3 km run at the popular Fane-Alm at the end of the valley nearby Valles. In bad weather, the adventure pool "AlpinPool" in Maranza is worth a visit.
