Ski area Rosskopf

The Rosskopf is the sun-kissed local mountain of Sterzing, which is around 15 kilometres from Ridnaun. A 6-seater gondola lift takes you comfortably up to the ski area, which extends at an altitude of 948 m - 2,120 m and offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Dolomites. A combined lift, a chairlift and two magic carpets take you and the young skiers up to the pistes below the Rosskopf (2,189 m), where a total of around 20 km of piste fun awaits you.

With its mostly easy and medium-difficulty pistes, the ski area is particularly popular with leisure skiers. The slopes, which mostly run below the tree line, are often pleasantly wide. Families appreciate the children's ski school, which has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval. The ski area is also home to the longest snow-covered toboggan run in Italy at around 10 kilometres. It starts at the inn below the 3-seater chairlift and leads down to the valley station of the cable car.

The upgrade to the "South Tyrolean Wipptal" lift pass also gives you the opportunity to ski in the Ladurns and Ratschings-Jaufen/Kalcher Alm ski areas on a total of approx. 65 kilometres of pistes (see ski region).

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.

Après ski Ridanna

Après ski in Ridanna and the surrounding areas is rather cosy. At the Rosskopf gondola's valley station, the Biwak-Bar invites you for a nightcap after skiing. Ridanna itself is rather quiet and peaceful. Nevertheless, many activities aside from skiing are on offer, so you will not get bored in the afternoon or early evening. The tourist mine Schneeberg is worth a visit especially when travelling with children. Here you will learn more about the region's 800 year history of silver, lead and zinc mining.

For a fun afternoon on the sleigh you can choose between two natural toboggan runs in the area. One can be found at Stadlalm and is 1,5 km long, the other one is at Zunderspitzhütte and is 6.4 km long. Another toboggan run can be found in the Rosskopf ski area. With its approx. 10 km it is Italy's longest toboggan run that can be covered with artificial snow. On Fridays it is floodlit in the evening.

Below Rosskopf you can find several winter hiking trails for hikers and snow shoe hikers. If you want to take it slowly and enjoy the quiet, you can explore the area during an extensive horse drawn carriage ride or a horse back ride through Ridanna Valley.

Snowpark: Funpark Ridanna

In the ski area Rosskopf there is unfortunately no snowpard. But only few kilometres away you will fing the ski area Racines-Jaufen, where the funpark Racines attracts everyone looking to shred. The area is located next to the 4-person chairlift Enzian and is a highlight in the ski area. The TÜV-certified obstacles where created by the renowned QParks team, and are a set-up for all levels off skills. A total of 17 different elements await beginners and professionals alike.
