Ski area Inselsberg
Tabarz would hardly be a winter's paradise, if it wouldn't offer some pistes of its own. At the Großer Inselberg (915 m), directly on the edge of the resort, there is a small, family-friendly ski area with 2.2 km of pistes. On the north slope of the mountain, not far from the parking lot, lies the valley station Schenkenwiese. The tow lift takes you up to the highest point at 900 m, from where you can even see the Brocken (in the Harz) on clear days. The Inselberg offers blue, red and even black pistes, so every skiing skill is catered for. There is a ski school and ski hire available and hence the infrastructure is well set-up for winter visitors. Thanks to some snow canons and provided the temperatures allow it, skiing over the whole winter season is possible here. Further, there is a children's toboggan slope on the Kleine Inselberg (300 m).
The neighbouring Datenberg offers a further tow lift, which enables access to a 140 m long, blue piste. This area is best suited for families with children and also for beginners on skis and snowboard.

Après ski Inselsberg
Even in little Tabarz, people who like to party will not be empty handed. In the early evening the party area's centre is the cellar bar Postmarie at Hotel Zur Post. Here, there are regular music events and other special events you can enjoy in combination with a good glass of beer or a refreshing cocktail.
Other than that the afternoons in Tabarz are close to nature and quiet. Besides the Berggasthof at the observation tower, which offers a wonderful view, you will find many cafés and inns for idle afternoons or early evenings. Two beatiful toboggan trails can also be found in close proximity to the resort: at Inselberg there is a rather steep slope that is ideal for a speedy descent. For families, a child-friends toboggan run below the summer toboggan run can be found at Kleiner Inselberg. The run is approx. 100 m long and a magic carpets brings you back up the mountain after your ride. Events with evening tobogganing on a floodlit run take place on a regular basis at the nearby Datenberg.
For bad weather and a little extra relaxation the public outdoor pool Tabbs is a good alternative. Saunas, steam baths and Kneipp basins invite you to relax here.
