Ski vacations Sun - Sunny prospects in the Bavarian Forest!

Sonnen

Close to the Austrian border, about 30 km east of the "three-river city" of Passau, lies the small resort of Sonnen. Due to its location in the border triangle of Germany-Austria-Czech Republic, the hamlet with 1,500 inhabitants offers the best conditions for a varied holiday in the midst of a great landscape. The geographical triad of Sonnen, Breitenberg and Wegscheid, which together form the Wegscheid Land, offers many cultural sights and invites you to explore off-piste.

Do you know the famous "Wegscheider Linen"? It is woven right here. The art of weaving has a long tradition in the Wegscheid region. Several hand weaving businesses and a weaving museum still bear witness to traditional linen weaving today. A popular excursion destination is the Friedrichsberg lookout tower between Breitenberg and Wegscheid, which offers a fantastic view of the snow-covered Bavarian Forest mountains. Up here, at the latest, it becomes clear what a beautiful landscape lies at your feet.

Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km². Besides of the Alpine region, this region is also known for its affinity to winter sports. Families in particular will find exactly what they are looking for here. Those who prefer not to explore the Bavarian Forest on skis can also go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The lovely castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest are definitively worth while a visit. Numerous restaurant and quaint huts, which offer both regional and international culinary highlights, should also be high on your list of to-do's. Bischofsmais – skiing fun and relaxation against a marvelous winter backdrop!
