If you want to go cross-country skiing in the Sarntal Valley, you have to travel from Sarnthein to the Pensertal Valley. In the rustic and snow-sure side valley, 20 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails await. A total of four different cross-country ski trails await you here against the magnificent backdrop of the Sarntal Alps. These include the very challenging 18.8 km long Pensertal trail in Pens with 220 metres of altitude difference to overcome. By contrast, the Pens-Asten and Murrerhof circuits (both 8.7 km long) are somewhat easier, with 70 metres of elevation gain each.
Every Wednesday between 19:00 and 21:00 in winter, night cross-country skiing under floodlights is also offered on the 2.35 km shortened trail in Asten. There is always a charge for using the trails. Tickets are available at the local hotels, where cross-country skiers can also hire skis, poles and boots.
