Ski vacations Štrbské Pleso – Höchstes Skidorf der Slowakei!

Štrbské Pleso

The health resort and traditional therapeutic bath Štrbské Pleso is the highest located resort in the High Tatras. The small town is located on the picturesque shore of the glacier lake, after which the resort is named. Tourism at Lake Štrbské Pleso already began to bloom at the end of the 19th century, and the resort became a popular holiday destination thanks to its beautiful surrounding landscapes. Nowadays, modern hotel buildings characterise the view of the traditional resort. After many improvements in the infrastructure and after becoming more and more well-known, Štrbské Pleso became the host of the Nordic Ski World Championship in 1970. The two ski jumping hills located below the ski area bring the huge event even today. Rather than ski jumpers, it is now courageous tourists who can try out bungee jumping.

If you want to explore the High Tatras, a trip with the Tatra Electric Railway is recommendable. The train stops in the nearby resorts Tatranská Lomnica, Starý Smokovek and Poprad, where you can look forward to small ski centres and customary gastronomy. Enjoy the magnificent view on the train ride through the valleys, and with a maximum of 30 km, the distance between the ski resorts is easily manageable.

High Tatras

The High Tatras is the oldest holiday region in Slovakia and is located in the northern part of the country, on the border with Poland. It is the highest mountain chain in Slovakia with a total of 25 peaks over 2,600 m and, with respect to its, dimensions, the smallest mountain chain in Europe. The peak of the pyramid form Lomnický štít, the second highest mountain in High Tatras (at 2,634 m in height) offers a special overview of the wonderful high mountain landscape. In Slovakia’s oldest national park there are 15 small communities with a total of seven ski centres. A visit to Europe’s smallest mountain chain in High Tatras is definitely worthwhile, as it offers an alpine feel on a smaller scale and with a less hectic pace and lower prices.
